In last month's newsletter we introduced the classroom and core teachers. This month we introduce the "specials," the out-of-class teachers who have specialized classes and teach all the students.

Virginia Vizcaino - School Secretary: This is my second year at MSC working as the school's secretary. This is my first job with the Board of Education. Before working here I worked for five years at ACS, the Administration Children's Services. I have an associate degree in Secretarial Sciences from the University in the Dominican Republic, my native country. I came to New York 10 years ago and now consider this city my home.

I am so happy to return to MSC this year. I have learned so much since starting last year. I am responsible for many administrative tasks as well as the payroll. I want to thank the staff. I appreciate that they and the families of MSC are so generous with their support.

Linda Weiss - Learning Specialist: Hello! I'm happy to be embarking on my first year here at MSC as I slowly get acquainted with staff members, children, and families. Being a graduate of the dual degree program at Columbia University and Bank Street College in Social Work/Special Education, I chose the education route years ago when I decided that I was happiest in the classroom teaching children.

I have been in education for the past 11 years, the first five years as a head teacher in a private, special education school in Brooklyn called the Mary McDowell Center for Learning and six years as a Learning Specialist at the City & Country School in the West Village. I also became involved more recently at Bank Street College as a teaching assistant in the graduate school for such courses as 'Reading Problems' and 'Practicum in Special Education.'

This past summer, I took a break from directing summer camp programs to travel and enjoy long days at the beach at Fire Island and down along the coast of North Carolina (I did miss hurricane season!) While down in the Durham, NC area, I did do a little bit of 'school work' by taking a week long course in learning differences given by Dr. Mel Levine.

This fall I'm taking a break from marathoning (I've run NewYork every other year since 1993) because it's like another job to train and I already have my job here at MSC! I'm looking forward to meeting members of the MSC community this year and especially to starting my work with the children.

Wilhelmina Waldon - Educational Assistant: Hi. I came to MSC when my daughter Courtney was in kindergarten. She's in sixth grade now in the Upper School. My oldest child, Monique is a mom herself and works as a hairdresser. I also have a son Maurice, who is in college at University of Pittsburgh.

I started working at MSC last year having retired from a 27-year career working in banking. I decided I needed a change, and because I love working with kids I moved from volunteering in the school into a job. I have administrative and organizational duties, as well as working with all the children. Whenever you need something at the Upper School, if I can't do it for you, I'll find someone who can.

Keven Yuhas - Technology: Hi. This is my fourth year at MSC and I am looking forward to working with the students at both the Lower and Upper School within the school's Technology Program. Thanks to the Smart School's program both sites are now fully up and running. They will work both in their classrooms and in the Tech Labs in both sites.

I had a great summer. As most of the kids know I love skate boarding and exploring and had time to do both over school break.
