Annual Appeal: Each fall, the school raises money for its non-profit, Friends of Manhattan School for Children. One night is dedicated to making phone calls to all MSC families. This one-time flurry of activity usually takes place after working hours and is an excellent opportunity for working parents.

Winter Ball: This spectacular gala requires lots of hands-on work decorating and breaking down and takes place on a weekend. This is also a good activity for working parents.

Winter Auction: From selling tickets to soliciting auction items and writing the online catalog, preparation begins in the fall and help is needed on many fronts and in many forms. The silent auction begins about a month before the ball and culminates in a live auction at the ball.

Uptown County Fair: Another spring event, this fair doubles as a fun time for children and a fundraiser. A lot of parent help is needed to organize, set up and run various booths and clean-up. Also, each class puts together a basket devoted to a specific theme (a day-at-the-beach basket, a rainy-day-art-project basket and so on), which is awarded to the highest bidder at the Fair with all proceeds going to MSC. Coordinating a class basket is an excellent way for a working parent to get involved.

Scholastic Book Fair: This winter event is a fundraiser that also reflects our community’s interest in reading and in books. Parents organize and run the several-day event, which takes place during school hours.

Bake Sales: These are held several times throughout the year. Parents bring in the baked goods to parent volunteers who run the sale. Generally they take place after school. Healthy foods are encouraged and we are keeping an eye on the DOE guidelines regarding bake sales.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day: Each fall, the school opens its doors for a special welcome for grandparents and special friends. Parents organize this one-day, school day event.

Grant Writing: Much of the school’s funding comes from grants. If you’re a good writer, this committee would love your help. Grant deadlines are rolling throughout the year. Because the writing can be done on your own time, this is a good project for working parents.
